Phoenix Pride Center hosted a candlelight vigil Sunday evening for the Orlando shooting victims. Hundreds of people came together along with churches and community organizations to support the families and communities affected by the mass shooting.
Rev. Walton of Phillips Memorial CME Church was among the speakers. He recalled the moment he first heard of the Sunday morning tragedy.
“I decided to take a look at my phone and the first thing to come up on my Facebook feed was a mother who had not heard from her son,” he said. “And it rocked me to my core. And I said, ‘Oh God, when is enough going to be enough?'”
After speaking of the mother who received text messages from her son who was in the Orlando nightclub as the tragedy unfolded, he continued, “I’m tired. I’m tired of the hatred. I’m tired of the rhetoric that goes on and on that because somebody might be different than I am, I’m supposed to hate them.”
